Good news Friday, Selena Gomez, Queen Elizabeth II, Denmark
My Mind & Me
Selena Gomez has been highly praised for her touching documentary “My Mind & Me”, which was shot over a 6-year period to capture the essence of her life. The singer demonstrates vulnerability, highlighting mental health issues including anxiety, depression and imposter syndrome.
The film’s director, Alek Keshishian, said in a statement: “I have met every celebrity known to man. Most of them have developed a kind of armour to present themselves to the world. For someone who’s been doing this since she was seven, it doesn’t feel like Selena’s got all these layers of the facade.”
Memorial sculpture
The first statue of the late Queen Elizabeth II was unveiled after her death in September. The sculpture pays tribute to the Queen's long reign and stands outside of York Minster, the largest gothic cathedral in Britain.
“When this statue was first planned five years ago, during a reign of unprecedented duration and achievement, it was intended as a celebration of the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee," King Charles II said in a speech at the unveiling ceremony.
"Now, as we have witnessed, with great sadness, the passing of that reign, it is unveiled in her memory, as a tribute to a life of extraordinary service and devotion.
"The late Queen was always vigilant for the welfare of her people during her life. Now, her image will watch over what will become Queen Elizabeth Square for centuries to come."
Danish parliament
The people of Denmark have elected a record number of women into the national parliament, at 44%. With more women in parliament than ever before, it's expected that the current female prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt will be voted in again.
